At Kyiv-Mohyla School of Law, the students have the opportunity to put theory into practice by getting involved in competitive teams and participating in national and international moot court competitions.

Moot court competitions involve appellate cases as opposed to those at the trial level. Students do research, write appellate briefs, and present oral arguments to judges. Judges ask questions throughout students’ presentations to ensure the students have a profound understanding of the facts of the case, own arguments, and opponents’ arguments. Moot Courts helps the students become comfortable formulating arguments and expressing them in front of judges—essential skills for any attorney. It is also an opportunity for the students to demonstrate that they know how to put in the many hours necessary to perfect legal analytics, research and writing skills.

On February 3, Kyiv-Mohyla Academy Team became the National Champion of the Jessup Competition by outscoring other eight teams from all over Ukraine. They are the single team which has qualified to officially represent Ukraine at the International Rounds that will be held during March 31 – April 7, 2019 in Washington, D.C. Students from more than 680 law schools in 100 countries participate in the Jessup Moot Court Competition every year. It is the largest and most prestigious international law moot court competition in the world.

The Kyiv-Mohyla Law School teams are finalists and winners of past moot court competitions, such as European Human Rights Moot Court Competition (Strasbourg, France) and Nuremberg Moot Court Competition (Nuremberg, Germany). The team needs your support, namely $13,000, in bringing another victory home to Ukraine.

Join us in our mission in educating Ukraine’s next generation of advocates and law-makers – the generation of professionals who will fight for Ukraine’s borders in international courts and who will toil to transform Ukraine into the land where rule of law prevails in national courts.
