WISE CONVERSATIONS - A New Program for Parents Kyiv-Mohyla Department of Philosophy and Religious Studies
Ludmyla Arkhypova, candidate of Philosophy, docent at the Department of Philosophy and Religious Studies, deputy director of the the Kyiv-Mohyla Doctoral School, and a 1996 graduate of Kyiv-Mohyla AcademyThe Kyiv-Mohyla Philosophy and Religious Studies Department established a new Program titled “Wise Conversations”, aimed at a better understanding of the relationship between parents and children. The program is offered as a result of requests to offer intellectually challenging projects that will help young parents understand the process of educating and rearing children in an environment that will promote and develop balance, inquiry and independence.
The program will be led by Ludmyla Arkhypova, candidate of Philosophy, docent at the Department of Philosophy and Religious Studies, deputy director of the the Kyiv-Mohyla Doctoral School, and a 1996 graduate of Kyiv-Mohyla Academy.
The first lectures will focus on the worldwide challenges in education, and the creation of a creative and participatory environment for children’s development where questioning and critical thinking will replace the former style of conformist education.
It is significant that this new program was created to satisfy the need of a new generation of parents who wish to prepare their children to participate in a free and democratic environment. The program is based on the belief that children develop reasoning skills and logic at an early age. There is empirical evidence that teaching children reasoning skills early in life greatly improves other cognitive and academic skills and greatly assists learning in general.
Kyiv-Mohyla Academy responded to the challenges and requests of a young generation with this innovative new program.
