NaUKMA Hosts EU Commissioner at First Western-Model PhD Diploma Ceremony in Ukraine
Androulla Vassiliou, EU Commissioner for Education, Culture, Multilingualism and Youth visited National University of Kyiv-Mohyla Academy on December 5, to meet students, staff and alumni at the opening of the conference, "Tempus and Erasmus Mundus: Opportunities for the Eastern Partnership". Her speech on the topic, "Cooperation and Mobility Opportunities for Individuals and Institutions between the Ukraine and the European Union" was followed by a question and answer session.
Roman Szporluk lectures at Kyiv-Mohyla Academy’s Polish and European Studies Center
Roman Szporluk, distinguished historian and author, lectured on December 13 at the Kyiv-Mohyla Polish and European Studies Center on the topic “Schematics of Ukrainian History of the XIX-XX Centuries and the Issue of a Rational Approach to Modern History of Eastern Europe”. The lecture presented the concepts raised in his upcoming book, "The Making of Modern Ukraine: An Inter-National History", and its focus on the international dimension of Ukrainian history. Professor Szporluk highlighted the critical need to rethink the history of Ukraine from the XVIII century to 1914.
WISE CONVERSATIONS - A New Program for Parents Kyiv-Mohyla Department of Philosophy and Religious Studies
The Kyiv-Mohyla Philosophy and Religious Studies Department established a new Program titled "Wise Conversations", aimed at a better understanding of the relationship between parents and children. The program is offered as a result of requests to offer intellectually challenging projects that will help young parents understand the process of educating and rearing children in an environment that will promote and develop balance, inquiry and independence.
Farewell to the USSR from Lithuania and Ukraine Kyiv-Mohyla Academy Hosts Roundtable
On November 8, National University of Kyiv-Mohyla Academy hosted a roundtable discussion titled “A Lithuanian and Ukrainian Farewell to the USSR”, on the aftermath of Soviet totalitarianism and the necessary measures to protect against a return to the past. The event was organized by the Center for Research of the Ukrainian Independence Movement, with support of the Embassy of the Republic of Lithuania in Ukraine.
European Union Hails First PhD Program in Ukraine and Ranks Kyiv-Mohyla Academy N.2 and N.3 in Social and Political Sciences
The EU Commission on Education and Culture issued a "Study on the organisation of doctoral programmes in EU neighbouring countries". Its country report on Ukraine ranked National University of Kyiv-Mohyla at U.S. universities Academy as the No.1 university in social and political sciences. The report included an extensive note of approval on NaUKMA’s establishment of a western equivalency PhD program.
Journal “Osvita” Ranks Kyiv-Mohyla Academy No.2 and No. 3 of Top Ukrainian Universities.
On December 12, the journal "Osvita" ("Education") released its ratings of Ukrainian universities in various categories. National University of Kyiv-Mohyla Academy ranked No. 2 among the "Top Ten Classical Universities", and No. 3 among "Best Universities in Kyiv". It is a pleasure to share the ratings of the TOP-TEN universities in the following categories: "Best Classical Universities", "Best Private Institutions of Higher Learning”, “Best Universities in Kyiv", and "Best in Ukraine"
Conference on Soviet-German Collaboration During Interwar Period and WWII
On November 5-6, National University of Kyiv-Mohyla Academy hosted the International conference, “Collaboration Between the Soviet Union and Germany in the Interwar Period and During WWII”. The conference was organized by the Vasyl Stus Memorial Society, the National University Kyiv-Mohyla Academy, thePublic Institute of Historical Memory, and the Ukraine 3000 Fund.
Pochaina Choir Celebrates its 25th Anniversary
The Anniversary Concert starts at 19.00 on Tuesday, December 20, 2011, in the National Philharmonic of Ukraine (Volodymyrskyi Uzviz, 2). The concert will include works by A. Vedel, M. Beresovskyi, A. Karamanov, M. Verykivskyi, V. Stepurko. Instrumental accompaniment will be provided by the National Distinguished Academic Symphonic Orchestra of Ukraine.
Erudites Competition for Connoisseurs of Law
10 years ago the NaUKMA Faculty of Law launched an Erudites Competition for connoisseurs of Law. “Scientia juris dignissima est”– this phrase by Ulpianus Domitius, an outstanding Roman Lawyer (170-228 C.E.), was taken for motto. The aims of the Competition are: to encourage students for enhancing their professional expertise and increasing their level of professional competence and culture, and to foster intellectual elite of students as creative potential of Ukrainian society.

Kyiv-Mohyla Academy Hosts "Roads to Freedom" Conference NaUKMA Brings Ambassadors and International Universities to Ukraine to Support Freedom and Rule of Law
Academic, political, media and civil society leaders from various countries and Ukraine met on October 7-8 at the Conference "Roads to Freedom", held at the National University of Kyiv-Mohyla Academy. The ambassadors of the United States, Canada, Poland, Germany, France, Austria and the European Union attended the conference. The conference was organized to provide a forum for discussion on the dynamics of Ukraine's development, on achievements and problems in its educational sector, and for formulating distinct recommendations regarding reforms in higher education.
