Anna Novosad leads the SavED Team to save education for children from destroyed schools

On Sunday, April 25, Kyiv Mohyla Foundation of America hosted the team of the organization SavED. This organization was established to ensure students maintain access to education during the war and reclaim their right to learning, after Russian forces targeted and destroyed kindergartens, elementary and secondary schools.  The Ukrainian Institute of Modern Art co-hosted a welcome reception and presentation with the Ukrainian community of Chicago.

Under the leadership of Anna Novosad, former Minister of Education and Science of Ukraine (2029-2020), and alumna of Kyiv-Mohyla Academy, the SavED team held presentations at Georgetown University in Washington DC, Columbia University in New York, and Lake Forest Academy and the Ukrainian community in Chicagoland.  They showcased a film illustrating the dire condition of schools destroyed by Russian missiles and the need to reinstate the education of displaced children.

Almost a million kids are getting their education online.  More than a million are getting their education in blended learning.  Over 3,800 schools have been damaged, 400 completely destroyed.  Kyiv-Mohyla Academy maintains a Lyceum for high school students who will enter the university and provides opportunities in education to children of soldiers and veterans who were displaced from their schools.

The SavED team included Anna Novosad, director Olena Severenchuk, executive director Olena Severenchuk, administrator Inna Dzyndra, Andriiy Kolyutyak, director of the Mariupol Lyceum, and Dariia Zvoryhina, Myroslava Trofymchuk, students from Kakhovka and Mykolayiv, who lost their homes and their schools and became winners of the Academic Olympiad and full scholarships to U.S. universities.

During the last two years, the Team was assisted by IREX in finding over 70 sources of funding for the project.

In Chicago, Anna Novosad received donations for the needs of the SavED project from the Selreliance Ukrainian Foundation, the Heritage Ukrainian Foundation of First Federal Savings Bank, and the Ukrainian Congress Committee of America Illinois Division.  Their continuous generosity is the lifeline of projects that support Ukraine.
